Apartment Cat Ladder

Cat ramp for apartment living cats

A few years ago some friends asked my husband if he could help them build a cat ramp so their cat could safely exit their 2nd floor apartment. And that is what my sweet husband did for a very lucky cat.

Letting cats go outside, especially in a city has its advantages, dangers and controversies. Here in Switzerland almost all indoor cats have access to the outdoors and owners go to great lengths to allow them to get outside whenever possible. Alyssa, from Bengal Cat Love did a 3 part video series about the pros and cons of letting your cat outside and shared her personal experience of letting her Bengals outside. Watch Part 1 here.

This is a rented apartment so the landlord just asked that the cat ramp be done in respect to the style and colors of the building.

This apartment is on the second floor. But I have seen many cat ramps going up to 3rd, 4th and 5th floor apartments.

Joey loves his access to the outdoors and takes multiple trips a day outside but still spends most of his time indoors. A few times neighboring cats have entered but Joey defends his home and scares them away.

The fact that a landlord allows their tenants to carve out a whole in the wall and drill large ramp structures to the outside of the apartment building demonstrates the culture of acceptance of allowing cats to go outside in Switzerland.

Do any you have cat ramps or cat doors to let your cats out? I’d love to hear about it!
