Pet-Friendly DIY cleaning products

When you think about how much time your pets spend in your home, surfaces they lick and how much they lick themselves, it becomes important to think about what toxins they are exposed to.

The EPA estimates that more than 50% of indoor pollution is a direct result of household cleaning products.

The chemicals and toxins found in cleaners can be dangerous to your health but also your children and pets. Cats and dogs are especially susceptible to these toxins due to their small lungs, faster metabolism and licking surfaces and themselves. Therefore pet-friendly cleaning products are a must.

DIY household cleaners are safer for you, safer for the environment and cheaper.

Glass cleaner:
50% water
50% white vinegar

Disinfectant:
50% rubbing alcohol
50% water
(great for cleaning cleaning meat grinders and cutting boards)

Soap Scum Remover:
50% dish soap
50% white vinegar

My favorite store bought non-toxic cleaners:

Dr. Bronner’s Fair Trade & Organic Castile Liquid Soap – This amazing multipurpose soap is magical. My favorite uses is as hand soap and make-up brush cleaner.

Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Multi-Surface Concentrated Cleaner– I use this to clean the tile and laminate floors. The lemon scent gives a fresh clean smell.

Both Dr. Bronner’s and Mrs. Meyer’s are a concentrated cleaner which means you will dilute them in water so you will save money and plastic. They are both, gentle, safe, and smell amazing.

Or for a multi-purpose everyday cleaner I use a combination of water and white vinegar and essential oils in a spray bottle.

Essential oils are also a must have in my cleaning routines.

Lemon Essential Oil

Lavender Essential Oil

If you don’t like the scent of any of the DIY cleaners add a bit of essential oils to change the smell.

Baking Soda

Sprinkle it on carpet, furniture, bedding and vacuum.

There are some situations which may require heavy duty cleaners. But for everyday cleaning, going as natural and gentle is the way to go.

We only use that kind of products to clean our house too. Instead of ordering all your products (which is less safe for the environment than buying them where you live), did you already have a look at SunStore, or another drugstore ? They have all the essential oils you need, and several organic cleaning products like L’Arbre Vert or Ecover. http://www.sunstore.ch/fr/shop/sante/maison-jardin/menage/?filter=1073763402
