A kind friend offered us a new toy, the Smarty Kat activity mat, which we were super grateful to receive.
It’s a 12×12 inch play mat made of plastic and fleece. The four corners have toys made of various textures such as fabric, felt, feathers and rope. There is a crinkle paper between the layers of fabric which create a sound and texture the cats are attracted to.
What I like most is that it is lightweight and easy to store. I like to take toys like this out before I leave for work. If you leave these kinds of toys out all the time cats quickly get bored with them and ignore them. Putting them away and then taking them out make them more more interesting.
Cornelius mostly enjoys sleeping on it. But Elizabeth enjoys playing with the corner toys and the crinkle paper.
When keeping cats indoors like I do, I feel its necessary to enrich their lives as much as possible. I’m on the hunt for some new interactive games which will entertain them when they are alone.
While the SmartyKat Activity Mat isn’t a genius or innovative new toy. It is a classic, easy to store inexpensive toy that cats are attracted to.

I have this for my cats, too, and Dexter likes it the most!
That looks like fun. My cats prefer wand toys and cardboard scrathcers.
PetSafe makes a number of interactive toys that we love to play with.
