Window Cat Perches

I love all the beautiful cat shelves I see on the market. But because I’m renting and my walls are solid cement, I just don’t want to drill a bunch of holes and put up the shelves.

Instead I’ve bought two perches I can attach to windows with suction cups. It’s a simple way of adding more vertical space for the cats without taking up much room.

The first one I got was this one from KP Pets. This is a cardboard scratcher which the cats are obsessed with. This window is just next to my bed and is the usual spot Cornelius sleeps at night.

This window perch is 11″ x 20″ inches (53x55cm) which is one of the smallest on the market. It suctions to the window and can hold up to 60lbs / 27kilo. While it is small enough to fit my small window, the cradle is still quiet large that both cats can sit on it. See full review.

Both cats definitely prefer the cardboard scratcher as it serves double purpose. .

As much as the cats love this perch I wanted to try another style. I have narrow windows so I had to pay close attention to the dimensions as many of the perches were just too wide for my windows.

I found this simple black metal frame with a small bed. I liked this one because the support came from the bottom instead of the top like my other one. This allows for easier jumping between the two. The bed comes in many different colors, I choose the grey. I like the minimal design and how much little visual space it takes up.

It says it can hold up to 20 lbs (15 kg). It is smaller than my other on so both cats are not able to sit or lay on this at the same time. 14.5” x 1.77” (37cm x 4.5cm). It sells for around $33 on Amazon.

The key things I look for in cat products are:

  1. Something my cats will use often
  2. Well-designed, minimal aesthetic
  3. Takes up minimal space

I’ve had the second perch now for a couple months and like the other, they have never fallen down. It is significantly smaller, so if you have a large cat it may not be the best. But for small windows and small-medium sized cats it works perfectly!

These perches do all of these things. The amount of joy these two little accessories bring my cats is priceless. It is just lovely watching them sunbath and cat nap up high. In a small apartment especially, finding ways to give your cats more access to vertical space will enrich your cats’ life.
