Obviously, the easiest way to protect your bed from your cat is to keep them out of the bedroom. But for most of us, that just isn’t an option. They’re our family and to lock them out feels cruel. Plus we love their company.
But there are still important steps you can take to protect your bed from your cat.
1.Mattress Protector
This should be a must for everyone, regardless if you have pets. Your mattress is a huge investment so taking care of it is vital. This mattress protector fully encases the mattress with a zipper is water-proof, bedbug-proof and dustmite-proof . It is a soft cotton, no plastics nor vinyl, is soft and quiet. For around $40 it is well worth it and will protect for many years with a 10 year warranty. The reviews of this being extremely water-proof is essential for homes with pets.
You can also protect your pillows with these pillow protectors by the same company. This will prevent hair from getting stuck inside your pillows over time.
2. Choose your bed frame wisely
A large bed frame with both a fabric headboard and footboard like the one below is just asking for your cat to use it as a scratching post. One of the reasons cats scratch is because they want to leave their scent in socially significant places to claim them as their own. You spend a lot of time in your bed so of course they want to leave their scent mixed with yours. A frame like this would also require weekly hair removal.
Instead, go for a minimal wooden or metal frame. Something they will not scratch. For example this gold metal bed frame is durable and your cats will not make a mark on it. Not only will they not damage it, you won’t have to worry about removing cat hair.
3. Put a scratcher near your bed
Cats like to scratch as soon as they wake up and before they go to sleep. If they are sleeping with you or near your bed then give them a scratcher close by. There are so many beautiful cat scratchers available it doesn’t need to be an eye sore.
A scratcher that doubles as a bed is perfect because it will help collect that hair and still allow your cat to sleep near you but not always directly on you.
4. The Lilly Brush
This little tool is a must have . It is the quickest and fastest way to remove cat hair from the last place your cat was sleeping. No refills, no waste, it lasts for many many years. Super efficient, especially to quickly clean the bed.
I have a cordless Dyson which is another essential for my home but to use it on the bed takes time and effort. Lint rollers work well, but are wasteful and need refills. I sometimes use a squeegee to quickly clean bedding and fabrics which works, but I prefer the Lilly Brush hands down.
Finally, Sheets and Bedding……
Choosing bedding and fabrics is not as easy. There has to be a balance between your preferences and what works best with pets. This is a whole other topic I will be posting about soon.
Do you have any other tips? How do you protect your bed from your little loved ones? Please share in the comments :-)
Good advice thank you.
Gotta say, that is the cutest cat model ever!

Thank you :-) I do adore my two little ones.
Regarding bed covers and sheets, I love satin because cat fur simply falls off it and doesn’t stick to it. Of course, this is not a good option in the winter when it’s too cold, and I use a bieber bed cover which, sadly, is super sticky for cat fur! But hey, the things you put up with for love!
