Cat Haircut at Home or the Groomers?

There are many reasons and opinions about cutting or shaving a Persian cat’s hair. I like to give my cats a haircut once a year in the summer time and keep other areas trimmed year round. I have tried many ways to give them a haircut. Using an electric clippers, going to a groomer salon  and having a groomer come to my home. Below is a photo of a lion’s cut he received at a groomers.

I wish I could find a groomer that I just loved and felt really comfortable with but unfortunately, I haven’t. All the groomers I have been to see dogs as well and it is a stressful and busy environment that the cats hate. I then had a groomer come to my home but this wasn’t much better. In order to cut the hair this short with electric clippers the groomer had to strongly restrain him and the risk of cutting him is quite scary and not worth it to me. I thought it would be less stressful to do it in my home. But afterwards I felt the cats were scared of male visitors that came to our home for sometimes afterwards. So it is just not worth it in my opinion.

Using the Scaredy Cut Scissors has continued to by my preferred method of giving the cats a haircut. There are so many things I love about this scissors. Most importantly how safe and easy it is. It does take some time as I prefer to use it on my cats’ time, when they are ready and relaxed.  It is a stress-free way for both me and my cats.  So to get the complete look may take 3-4 sessions over 1-2 days. Read my full review here.  It really is a game-changer when it come to cutting Persian cat hair. I just can’t recommend it enough. You can purchase both scissors together for $45 on Amazon and their customer service is excellent at responding to any questions. This is significantly less expensive than going to a groomers. I have been using this scissors regularly on my two cats for over a year and I am continued to be impressed with the quality of these tools.

I also started to use the Scaredy Cut Tiny Trim. This is a great little scissors for cutting out matts. It is very small to use in delicate areas. It has a rounded tip for safety. Whenever using a scissors like this it is important to be conservative and always put your finger between the skin and the scissors. Never ever take a risk by cutting the skin. Cornelius has silky hair which rarely gets matts. But Elizabeth has fluffy hair and I need to keep her belly trimmed constantly to avoid matts.

Below is Cornelius’ new haircut. As you can see its not perfect. But I think he looks super cute. He is cooler in this summer heat wave and I have less hair everywhere. It also helps to reduce hairballs.
